Congratulations on being nominated and randomly selected to present to Women Who Give a Hoot Greater Raleigh Area chapter! You (along with two other local nonprofits) will have just 5 minutes each to tell your story. Check out our Facebook page and watch the previous event's videos to get a feel for our model, our members, and how it all works. Take a few minutes to watch our presentation prep video and to read up on some best practices. Taking some time to get to know us now will help you as you prepare.

Take a few moments to get to know us and some best practices for presenting to our group.

MAKE IT COUNT

You'll have 5 minutes to connect with us. Make it count! Whether you are the founder, a volunteer or a donor, if you are going to be the representative to pitch our members to support your organization, you’ll need to clearly + concisely explain what you do and why it's important. What will you do with $10,000 and how will that impact those you serve? The women sitting in this room are committed to Women Who Give a Hoot Greater Raleigh Area because of the simplicity of the model, the community impact, and the camaraderie among the group. Use the time you have to educate and move us. Even if you aren’t chosen as the benefactor for the night, you have an audience of passionate women, excited to hear your story, and eager to make a difference for our local community!

PITCH PERFECT

Generally, you should be able to tell the basic story of the work your organization does in under one minute. Drawn out explanations lose people easily. So hone your elevator pitch. Write down what the organization does, how it's done, and who is affected. Then wrap that around a few sentences, some relevant facts and you’re well on your way. Sometimes if there isn’t clarity it can do more to hurt the organization you are trying to help by confusing those that are hearing about it for the first time. Plus, over $10,000 is at stake.

TELL IT WITH HEART

Be sure to think of a way to tie in a personal story of those you impact with the work you do so that the group has a very clear understanding and thus connection to that work. Why does it matter to you and who/what have you seen change in the times you have been involved that have mattered to you? If it matters to you, it will probably matter to someone else.

SHOW THEM THE MONEY

The people in the room are ready to make a wise choice about where they donate. Those that struggle to define how our group’s financial donation will be (should they be voted as the award recipient) will find they struggle to get our member's votes. We’re not talking about detailed financial statements here but rather a strong description of what the donation will support.

NOT ALL VIDEO IS EQUAL

Trust us. We’ve made some incredible videos that move our members to tears but for those unfamiliar with our mission, the video falls flat. You’ve perhaps invested (emotionally or financially, or both!) in a video that you are proud of. We applaud you for your efforts to have a shareable, engaging and powerful marketing tool at your disposal. With only 5 minutes to pitch us, however, you want to make sure that video was created with clear & concise goals as well as a carefully crafted marketing strategy leading it’s production. Unsure your video fits the bill? Make a checklist of our quick tips above then watch your video. Does it check all the boxes? If not, maybe show us a little less action and give us a little more conversation about why we should vote for you.

Most of all, remember that you are here because of the great work your organization is doing! Women Who Give a Hoot members are looking forward to hearing from you, so be sure to enjoy your time with us and have some fun!
